John’s Technique

The Kortum Technique is a health assessment process that identifies previously unrecognized signs of illness in the human body’s physical appearance. The technique translates naturally encoded biological information into a coherent vocabulary called “indicators.” These indicators correlate to the body’s organs and systems and identify unhealthy biological patterns as well as detect disease processes before they can manifest in the body’s tissues. The Kortum Technique supports and augments the conventional medical diagnostic model and also reveals underlying emotional, mental, and spiritual information that may contribute to the well-being of the human body.

An investigative study was designed in Bethesda, Maryland to test the technique’s performance in a clinical environment. The performance measured .9347 accurate (93%) for identifying health imbalances within the human body based on the study protocol.

The observation-based technique interacts with the client’s human body and the perceptual awareness of the practitioner or observer. The body co-operates and acts as both the encoder and decoder of the body’s information of health. Encoding occurs when the body’s environment detects illness or disease activity in the formative stages, oftentimes before conventional medical tests can detect any irregularities or patient discomfort or symptoms that exist. An internal metabolic awareness generates the conversion of biological data into the indicator that represents the specific body organ or system in distress. Once generated, the indicator becomes situated in the body’s physical appearance.

A dedicated sensory awareness process is required to perceive and evaluate the indicator. The practitioner or observer orchestrates the ordinary sense of sight with the sense of touch into a single perceptual lens that blends optical images with textural properties. This cohesive visual pathway increases the flow of detectable sensory stimuli available thereby identifying the indicator as an observable characteristic. The region of the body where most indicators are observed is the human face.

The indicators are also interactive. When the health imbalance is severe or in a state of progression, the indicators intensify in its appearance relative to the intensity or progression of illness. Likewise, when the body is in a state of recovery and healing, the indicators decrease in appearance or disperse altogether.

My book, The Kortum Technique, introduces the body’s expressions of indicators and explains the associated terminology of Indicator Topography, Kinesthetic Simulation, and Sensory Aspect Ratio. The book invites the reader to explore the senses in action and become aware of greater perceptual capacities.

Test Study

TERMS

Conventional medical assessment tools/findings: Represent the traditional medical model as it is practiced today, and includes a medical history, physical examination, and laboratory studies.

The Kortum Technique assessment tool/findings: Represent evaluation through a sensory pathway. This form of perception is intuitive and the information that is received or known through this process exists beyond the process of logical reasoning and the use of our ordinary five sensory system.

The assessment is performed visually by direct observation of personal presence and energetic field.

Indicators: Visible symbology that identifies the body system or organ.

ABSTRACT

The study was performed in order to compare and evaluate the consistencies between the results of health assessments performed using the conventional medical model and the use of a specific sensory observation technique (the Kortum Technique). The sensory observation technique identified the conventional medical diagnoses with numeric accuracy of 0.9347 or about 93%.

Additional research is needed in order to demonstrate statistical reliability and validity.

INTRODUCTION

This study is designed to investigate whether there are consistencies between the results of health assessments performed using the conventional medical model and the use of a sensory observation technique. If substantiated by the scientific process, the technique will portend tremendous potential in the medical field, including but not limited to the development of new health assessment procedures, renewed consideration of the nature of illness and disease, and the identification of heretofore unknown factors in the ways that illness and disease manifest in patients.

METHODS

Subject Recruitment

Subjects were recruited through word of mouth as well as from a patient population pool connected to a small internal medicine practice in Bethesda, Maryland.

Data Collection

Each participant was mailed a packet containing an introductory letter, informed consent forms, and a patient intake form. They were instructed to read all the materials and fill out the intake form. Each subject was then given an appointment for the in-person assessment procedure. During their office visit, the research protocol was reviewed and the informed consent was signed and witnessed. Each of the two assessment tools was employed. Data was collected and recorded for each subject.

Protocol

Each of the subjects met with the examiner in a medical office examination room. The examiner had not met the subjects prior to the day of testing and was given no past or current health history about the subject. He sat within four to six feet of the subject and observed their presence. Using the observation technique, the level of performance accuracy was determined by how many times the observation technique identified a body organ or system as having an abnormality when there was a correlating confirmed conventional medical diagnosis.

Limitations

The Kortum Technique identified health imbalances in patients that could not be included in the study results for the following reasons:

• Patient subjects complained of discomfort and symptoms, but the conventional medical assessment could not offer a diagnosis.

• Some health imbalances that were identified by the observation technique at the time of testing were not supported by a conventional medical diagnosis until after the research period was concluded.

DISCUSSION

The exploratory nature of the work was intended primarily to uncover potential avenues for future study and not to prove the validity or reliability of the observation technique. A formal statistical study and analysis at a later date will be required in order to determine if the technique will meet the rigors of the scientific process. The results of the pilot study indicate that the two assessment tools appear to disclose fairly consistent information.

IMPLICATIONS

The KortumTechnique exceeds our current understanding of when illness or disease is actually detectable in the human body. Many conversations took place during the course of the study. As a result, we came up with a number of questions that relate to the different types of assessment and to the general importance of this work.

CONCLUSION

The work introduced has brought forth many questions, possibilities, potentials and opportunities for future study. Its implications regarding the way we, as health care providers assess, evaluate and treat health and disease are far reaching. They expand the basis not only of our knowledge structure but also of our methods of perceiving health, disease, and its relationship to the human condition. As we move to address these questions, we forge the future of medicine with open hearts, minds, and spirits and dedicate ourselves to supporting the evolution of this new medicine that integrates and embraces all of the depth and complexity—that is, the human organism.

Intuitive perception is a way of receiving information using capabilities beyond the process of logical reasoning and the use of our usual five sensory systems. It is plausible, that this type of perception has utility in the evaluation and treatment of medical conditions. John Kortum is an intuitive health counselor. Since his early childhood, he has been aware of his ability to perceive information intuitively. He has recently become interested in exploring its use in medicine. To this end, John has developed a specific method and accompanying vocabulary that organizes this information into a tool that allows access to it in a clear, concise manner.

In an effort to explore this previously untapped well of potential information, we have designed an exploratory pilot study that compares intuitively based medical information with medical information collected using the traditional medical framework.

Patients who voluntarily elect to become partners in this effort will undergo two medical examinations. The first will be a traditional physical exam, including history, physical and routine laboratory studies. The second will be an intuitive assessment in which intuitively based information regarding a person’s health will be received by observation of personal presence and energetic field. A short period of observation is required (one to three minutes) in order to assess major body systems (digestive, cardiovascular, endocrine, reproductive, etc.) It is necessary for the examiner (John) not to know your medical history. During your time together, you may feel free to speak or you can remain silent, whichever you prefer. The examiner will be available to answer any questions that you may have about the information he receives. The results of the intuitive assessment will not be considered part of your formal medical records, however, the information collected may prove useful as a basis for further conventional medical evaluation, if you so choose.

Each of the assessments will be performed separately. After all the information is collected, the results will be compared with particular attention to details that appear consistently in both the traditional medical and the intuitive realm. All records will be kept confidential. If all or part of them is published as part of the study, confidentiality will be upheld. The potential use of intuitive assessments as a tool for healing represents a giant step forward in the theory and practice of modern medicine. As a participant in this study, you can be a partner in uncovering some of the deepest secrets that lie within the undiscovered realm of human potential.

I, ___________________________________, voluntarily, knowingly, and willingly give my consent to receive an Intuitive Health Assessment as outlined above. I have been adequately informed, and any questions I have asked have been satisfactorily answered. I acknowledge that I am seeking this form of assessment solely for the purpose of understanding my own health and wellness. I also understand that the results of this assessment may be used as part of a research study where complete confidentiality will be upheld. I am aware that I may withdraw this consent at any time.
